Disgraceful

The supercommittee negotiations have failed. Why? Because Republicans simply REFUSED to make billionaires and big corporations lift even one finger to help reduce the debt. In fact, they’re demanding TAX CUTS for their biggest benefactors, the top 1%.

Instead, here’s who Republicans think should shoulder the burden: Seniors on Medicare. Middle class families who want to send their children to college. Every American receiving Social Security. The unemployed and all those who are suffering the most in this economy.

There’s no other word for it but disgraceful. Democratic senators won’t stand for it. I won’t stand for it. And I know you won’t, either. It’s time to unite with one clear voice and demand that Republicans stop putting the wealthy at the head of the line.

Economic Wreckage

Déjà vu. The House Republicans again drove us toward a government shutdown, this time holding hostage the victims of floods, wildfires, and hurricanes.

Their ransom demand? The gutting of job-creation programs.

After the Senate Democrats declared this DOA, the House GOP split town, and left us to clean up the mess.

I’ve had enough. These Republicans clearly have one interest in their governing. Destroy everything in their path, then blame President Obama and the Democrats for the economic wreckage.

I believe in bipartisanship and compromise. But as the Democrats’ chief vote-counter, I also know that there’s a time for discussion and a time for action. When the rubber meets the road, you’re either an “aye” or a “nay.”

And I’ve seen enough from these Republicans to know where they stand. “Nay” on creating new jobs. “Nay” on rebuilding our roads, bridges, and schools. “Nay” on protecting Medicare and Social Security.

That’s why I say “aye” to supporting the DSCC – the only organization solely devoted to keeping these Republicans and their dangerous gamesmanship far away from the Senate majority.

We’ve seen it over and over again: Republicans talk about working with the president and the need for bipartisanship, only to turn their backs and run away when Americans are in need. Their actions speak volumes.

And so do yours. Believe me, I’m as frustrated as you are that Republicans won’t let us do more to help the middle class. But that frustration only matters if it motivates us to act.

Thank you for standing with Democrats,

Dick Durbin

Adult Supervision

Shutdown update: Last night, Senate Democrats cleaned up the House Republicans’ mess again, narrowly averting a government shutdown.

After the House GOP passed a measure to hold disaster funding hostage, demanding job-creation programs as a ransom, they promptly went home. They have no regard for who lies in their path of destruction, as long as they can blame a dismal economy they created on President Obama and the Democrats.

Good thing there are some adults in the room. Last night, the Senate averted a shutdown while standing against Republican efforts to dismantle job-creation programs. And they’ll keep on defending Medicare, Social Security and Pell grants, too.

That’s why we need to protect the Democratic majority. This slim, four-seat margin is the only thing stopping the radical GOP House. There are just 72 hours until Friday’s deadline. Can you stand against this Tea Party takeover?

Help stop the Tea Party now.

Thanks,

Jason

Jason Rosenbaum

DSCC Director of Online Communications
